Skyhawks Upend Knicks in First Ever Meeting
December 30, 2019 - NBA G League (G League)
Westchester Knicks News Release
WHITE PLAINS, NY - The Westchester Knicks, the official NBA G League affiliate of the New York Knicks, had the College Park Skyhawks by 21 points but dismantled in the fourth quarter and let the game slip away, 108-104, Monday evening at Westchester County Center.
The Knicks (8-11) scored 40 points after the first 12 minutes which set a season-high for the club. After two quarters, Westchester went up 70-51, which also dubbed a superlative for the team this year. The 21-point advantage for the hosts was evident in the second quarter.
College Park (11-9) pounded back playing a more leveled third quarter and outscoring the hosts 26-21 in the frame before a cold front froze the Knicks resulting in their lowest offensive output in a quarter all season (13 points in the fourth).
The Knicks shot 56.5-percent from the field and 36.8-percent from downtown in the first half while the Skyhawks shot 39.1-percent and 23.5-percent, respectively. In the final period, both teams shot under 40-percent on the live ball, but Westchester hampered any hints of a comeback succumbing to 11 College Park free-throw makes while converting just one as a team.
Down the stretch, Lamar Peters knotted things at 104 apiece with an up and under layup with 11 ticks pictured on the clock. A floater by Tahjere McCall over the top of two Westchester Knicks' paint protectors and the absence of Kenny Wooten, pushed the visitors up two with under seven seconds remaining. Philip Cofer's only block of the game came against another Peter's drive and free-throw makes by Cat Barber iced Westchester.
Peters put up 14 points and 10 assists on the evening. Two-Way player Kadeem Allen notched a 13-point and 12-rebound double-double in his first game back after previously being transferred to the New York Knicks this past weekend. Kenny Wooten scored 13 points and raised for a game-high five rejections.
For the foe, Barber finished with 28 points and nine dimes. Nick Ward recorded 17 points and 12 boards.
The Knicks have an opportunity at redemption and face College Park on their grounds, Thursday, January 2 at 7 PM ET.
