Sioux Falls Skyforce News Release
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Sioux Falls Skyforce capped off a dominating homecourt regular season with a 125-90 win over the Fort Wayne Mad Ants on Sunday at the Sioux Falls Arena. The Skyforce (28-21, 19-5 home) clinched a playoff spot with the victory and holds the Central Division lead by a half game over the Dakota Wizards with one game remaining.
"We kept believing the whole time that we were going to get this thing turned around," said first year Sioux Falls head coach Nate Tibbetts. "I have to give a lot of credit to our guys."
Sioux Falls began the season 1-6 before acquiring some of the players that have led them to be one of the top six teams in the 14-team NBA Development League.
Newly acquired forward Glen McGowan led seven players in double figures for Sioux Falls with 25 points off the bench. Kasib Powell, who was honored with the NBA D-League MVP award before the game, added 24 points and seven rebounds.
"To not even knowing if I was going to be in the D-League to being the MVP is a long way," said Powell. "To be called the Most Valuable Player in this league is the biggest compliment, I'm just honored."
After an even first quarter, Sioux Falls scored the first nine points of the second to given themselves a lead which they would keep the rest of the game. After the intermission Sioux Falls went on a 15-1 run to begin the third quarter and stretch their lead to 21, putting the game out of reach for Fort Wayne (17-30).
Ron Howard led the Mad Ants with 29 points while Dahntey Jones added 26.
Sioux Falls will try to clinch the Central Division title when they travel to Colorado to take on the 14ers Friday at 8 p.m. CT. Fort Wayne will play tomorrow at Iowa at 7:30 p.m.
