Colorado 14ers News Release
DENVER - April 6, 2008 - Seven Colorado 14ers scored in double figures en route to a 120-103 win over the Austin Toros at the Broomfield Event Center on Sunday night. The victory is Colorado's third straight, and it pulls them to within three games of the Southwest Division lead with three games to play.
Colorado scored the first eight points of the game, and led wire-to-wire in their fourth win of the season against Austin. The 14ers led by as many as 25 in the first quarter behind 11 points from Justin Cage and 10 from John Thomas in the period.
"This was a big win for us. I'm glad we came out with a lot of energy and got a lot of steals early on," said 14ers head coach Joe Wolf. "It was one of those nights where people seize the opportunity, and it was a great team effort tonight."
Colorado played without leading scorer Kaniel Dickens, but everyone else in the line-up was able to pick up the slack. Cage started in place of Dickens and finished with a game-high 23 points to go along with eight rebounds, four assists, and four blocks. Billy Thomas added 20, and Eddie Gill poured in 19 points with eight assists in the win.
The 14ers also got a strong effort from their bench with Eric Osmundson scoring 18 points on six of eight shooting. Denver Nuggets assigned player Taurean Green also made his 14ers debut with 14 points and seven assists in 35 minutes of action.
Austin was led by DerMarr Johnson's 18 points in the loss. Andre Barrett, Serge Angounou, and Josh Gross also added 14 apiece for the Toros. First team All D-League center Ian Mahinmi was limited to just eight points and three rebounds in 17 minutes due to foul trouble.
The 14ers and the Toros will finish out their season series on Tuesday night in Broomfield.
