Skyforce Loses to Lakers 128-125 in Final Minutes of Season Finale

El Segundo, CA - After a late fourth quarter comeback, the Sioux Falls Skyforce dropped a 128-125 decision to the South Bay Lakers in the team's final contest of the 2021-22 season.

Sam Thompson (27 points on 12-21 FGA and six rebounds) secured his second game of scoring 20-plus points this season and a new career-high for points scored.

Mario Chalmers poured in 26 points on 6-10 FGA and nine assists to also secure a G League career-high for points scored in a game. It also marked back-to-back games for Chalmers with nine-plus assists.

South Bay (21-11) out-paced Sioux Falls in the first half, outscoring them 72-60, while shooting 56 percent from the field. Los Angeles Lakers two-way player Mason Jones scored 16 of his 18 points in the first half, while Thompson produced 21 points on 9-13 FGA to keep the Force within striking distance.

Behind 13 points and four assists from Chalmers in the third quarter, Sioux Falls was able to outscore South Bay by 10 points in the period and were able to cut the deficit to 103-101 with just 12 minutes to go.

The Skyforce took a three-point lead at the 6:12 mark of the fourth quarter, as they were able to claw back from as many as 17 points with just seven players seeing game action. Paris Bass (team-high 28 points on 11-20 FGA) posted 14 points on 6-9 FGA in the fourth quarter to help seal the victory for the Lakers.

Martin Krampelj tied a career-high in points scored with 20 on 8-9 FGA, five rebounds and three blocks. Micah Potter (20 points and 13 rebounds) posted his fourth-straight double-double, which is a team-high this season and a new career-high for Potter.

The loss marks the end of the season for the Skyforce. With the victory, the South Bay Lakers earned the second seed in the Western Conference playoff race. G League playoff times and dates are still TBD.
