Lakeland Magic Defeat Celtics in Thrilling Overtime Season Finale

The Lakeland Magic, NBA G League affiliate of the Orlando Magic, defeated the Maine Celtics, NBA G League affiliate of the Boston Celtics, 121-118 in overtime at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland.

Forty-eight minutes weren't enough to decide Lakeland's final game of the season. Hassani Gravett led all scorers in regulation with 30 points on six made threes. After Jeff Dowtin narrowly missed a step-back three at the fourth-quarter buzzer, the Magic and Celtics went into overtime knotted up at 116.

BJ Johnson was first to break the tie in extra time with a corner three. Celtics Two-Way player, Brodric Thomas, answered with a steal and breakaway finish before fouling out on the following possession. The foul sent Johnson to the line for two more points, extending the Lakeland lead back to three.

With five seconds left on the game clock, Maine inbounded the ball to John Bohannon. He forced a contested three for the miss and the Lakeland win.

Johnson finished with 20 points, three rebounds and two assists. Jeff Dowtin, back from his 10-Day contract with the Orlando Magic, scored 15 points with six assists and three rebounds. Aleem Ford added 14 points and six rebounds.

Sam Hauser, on assignment from the Boston Celtics, led Maine in scoring with 24 points and nine rebounds. Also on assignment, Malik Fitts finished with 20 points and five rebounds. Deonte Burton posted 21 points and six assists.

The 2021 NBA G League champion Lakeland Magic concluded the 2021-22 season with their highest attended home game of the season at the RP Funding Center. Fans can now put down deposits for 2022-23 season and group tickets to lock in priority seats and benefits.
