Sioux Falls Skyforce News Release
Sioux Falls, S.D. - The Austin Toros defeated the Sioux Falls Skyforce 126-121 at the Sioux Falls Arena on Tuesday night in front of a kid-heavy crowd of 3,228 fans on YMCA Night. Both teams recorded season-highs in points but it was Austin that came out on top thanks to 14 fourth-quarter points from Cardell "Squeaky" Johnson.
The game remained close throughout the first half as neither team led by more than four points in a half that saw 12 lead changes and eight ties. Sioux Falls (2-6) went into halftime with a slim three-point lead (60-57).
Sioux Falls gained momentum early in the second half as they went ahead 74-65 after two free throws by Chris McCray. The lead was quickly erased as Austin (4-5) went on an 11-2 spurt to tie the game at 76 apiece midway through the third quarter. The game was tied at 92 after three quarters before Johnson, who was scoreless through three quarters, took over in the final half of the fourth quarter as he scored 14 points to help Austin snap a four-game slide.
Lance Thomas paced the Toros with a season-high 23 points on 10-of-12 field goals. Eric Dawson added 21 points and 12 rebounds off the bench while Thomas Gardner chipped in with 17 points.
Raymond Sykes posted a season-high 25 points behind 9-of-12 shooting from the field. Miami HEAT assignee Dexter Pittman recorded his third double-double in five games with 15 points and 10 rebounds while Anthony Harris added a season-high 16 points in a reserve role.
