Sky Sox shut out Sacramento, 4-0

Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

Joe Koshansky hit a two-run double in the first inning and that was all Franklin Morales and Colorado Springs would need as the Sky Sox recorded their first home shut out since June 15, 2007, defeating Sacramento Sunday in front of 4,034 fans at Security Service Field, 4-0.

Morales (3-2) pitched 6.2 innings of scoreless baseball while striking out five and walking five. The lefty allowed just two hits on the afternoon, the fewest hits the RiverCats have ever had in a game against the Sky Sox. Morales departed with two outs in the seventh inning after consecutive walks loaded the bases.

Matt Daley recorded the final out of the inning with a nifty sliding stab at Richie Robnett's swinging bunt. Daley's throw home just barely beat out a hustling Wes Bankston to end the threat.

Dan Meyer (5-3) took the loss after being roughed up early. The RiverCat pitcher allowed four runs and five hits, including a two-run home run off the bat of Doug Bernier, through the first two innings. He settled down, though, allowing just two base runners, a walk and a fielder's choice, over the next five innings before departing to begin the eighth.

The Sky Sox and RiverCats continue their four-game series Monday night at 7:05. Mark Redman (1-1, 7.80) looks to give the Sky Sox at least a split in the series while Gio Gonzalez (2-2, 5.37) will get the call for the RiverCats.
