Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The Colorado Rockies announced today that outfielder Brad Hawpe will begin a rehabilitation assignment with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox tomorrow night. Hawpe, 28, will play for the Sky Sox against the Sacramento River Cats (Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland A's) in the team's 7:05 PM start at Security Service Field.

The Forth Worth, TX native will be returning to a ballpark where he's had success. In 2004, with the Sky Sox, Hawpe hit .322 with a career-best 31 home runs in just 92 games before heading to the big league club for good. Hawpe did, however, play seven games for Colorado Springs on a rehab stint in August 2005,

The Rockies drafted Hawpe out of LSU in the 11th round of the 2000 amateur draft. Hawpe was placed on the disabled list with a right hamstring strain on May 24. Before his injury, he was hitting .231 with three home runs and 17 RBI in 42 games.
