Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Fresno, CA - Wilkin Castillo picked off pinch runner Brain Bocock to end the game and preserve a 6-5 Sidewinders win over Fresno on Saturday night. The victory is Tucson's fourth straight, their first such winning streak this season.

Leo Rosales entered the game in the ninth looking to protect a 6-4 lead but immediately surrendered a home run to Eugenio Velez to cut the Sidewinders cushion to one. After Rosales retired the next two hitters, Scott McClain lined a single to right and was replaced by Bocock. As the 1-2 pitch to Brett Harper missed high and away, Castillo snapped a throw to Josh Whitesell who applied the tag on Bocock to end the game.

Esmerling Vasquez earned his first Triple-A win with 5 solid innings. Vasquez allowed two runs on five hits in the first inning but did not allow another run or hit. After McClain walked to open the third inning, Vasquez retired the final nine hitters he faced.

Rosales picked up his seventh save with his work in the ninth.

Tim Raines, Jr. paced the Sidewinders offense with three hits and three runs scored. Jamie D'Antona went 1 for 4 with 2 RBI to extend his hitting streak to 10.

Josh Whitesell, Wilkin Castillo and Jesus Merchan also drove in runs for Tucson.

The Sidewinders and Grizzlies play game two of their series on Sunday afternoon at Chukchansi Park. Right-hander Juan Gutierrez (1-9, 7.04) starts for Tucson against right-hander Brad Hennessey (3-0, 2.81) for Fresno. First pitch is at 2:05. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 1:55.
