Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The Storm Chasers surged back from an early 7-run deficit, but were still outscored by Colorado Springs 13-12 on Wednesday night at Security Services Field.
Colorado Springs took a 2-0 in the bottom of the 1st on RBI singles by Brett Phillips and Ji-Man Choi. The Chasers scored in the top of the 2nd on a sacrifice fly by Logan Moon , but the Sky Sox added 4 more in the bottom of the 2nd. Kyle Wren singled home Tyler Collins, Tyler Saladino stole home, Mauricio Dubon singled in Wren, and Robie Rojas brought home Dubon on a groundout. It was 6-1 Sky Sox after 2 innings.
Omaha pulled 2 of the those runs back in the top of the 3rd. Ryan O'Hearn grounded out to plate Ramon Torres , and Frank Schwindel brought in Hunter Dozier with a single, cutting the deficit to 6-3.
Colorado Springs stretched their lead to 10-3, however, with 4 more in the home half of the 3rd. Kyle Wren, Nate Orf, and Mauricio Dubon strung together consecutive run-scoring doubles, and Brett Phillips singled to score another. It was 10-3 Colorado Springs.
But the Chasers rallied to tie the game with a 7-run top of the 4th. Nick Dini began the uprising with a walk, and Humberto Arteaga and Billy Burns singled to load the bases. Ramon Torres drove in Dini with a single, and Hunter Dozier drew an RBI walk, chasing Sky Sox starter Corbin Burnes. Ryan O'Hearn greeted reliever Tristan Archer with a 2-run single, scoring Burns and Dozier. Then, Frank Schwindel clubbed a 3-run homer to left field for his 2nd round-tripper of the season, tying the game 10-10.
Burnes pitched 3.1 innings, allowing 8 runs, 8 hits, and 4 walks. He struck out 2.
Andres Machado pitched the first 3 innings for Omaha, and was tagged for 10 runs (8 earned) on 11 hits. He struck out 4 and walked 1.
Omaha took their first lead of the night in the top of the 5th on a single by Humberto Arteaga and a triple by Ramon Torres. But Colorado Springs answered in the bottom of the 5th on a Mauricio Dubon sacrifice fly to make it 11-11.
The Sky Sox re-took the lead in the bottom of the 6th. Andres Blanco scored on an error by Ramon Torres, and Kyle Wren singled in another tally to make it 13-11.
The Chasers pulled back to within a run in the top of the 7th, as Hunter Dozier doubled home Ramon Torres. It was 13-12.
Omaha were unable to mount another comeback, however. Jorge Lopez tossed the final 1.2 innings for the Sky Sox, earning his 3rd save of the season.
Eric Davis (W, 1-3) was awarded the win after pitching 1.2 innings and allowing 1 run. He was the pitcher of record when the Sky Sox took the lead for good in the 6th.
Brandon Maurer (L, 0-1) took the loss for the Storm Chasers. Jason Adam was the highlight of their defensive evening, tossing 2 scoreless frames in his Omaha debut.
The Storm Chasers will continue the series against the Sky Sox tomorrow night at 7:40 Central time. RHP Heath Fillmyer (1-1, 4.85) will pitch for Omaha, while RHP Freddy Peralta (4-0, 1.29) takes the mound for the Sky Sox.
