Fresno Grizzlies News Release
The Fresno Grizzlies (14-6) cruised past the Tacoma Rainiers (10-9) 10-0 Wednesday night from Chukchansi Park. Fresno starter Cy Sneed (2-0, win) continued his pitching prowess, extending his scoreless streak to 16 innings. In five frames, he scattered four hits, while walking three and punching out five. While offensively, Fresno plastered double-digits on the scoreboard for the seventh time. Four starters tallied multi-RBI while Drew Ferguson (3-for-4) reached base four times.
Garrett Stubbs (2-for-3) put the Grizzlies up 1-0 in the bottom of the second with a sacrifice fly to right. He would make it 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth with a double to deep right-center. Stubbs would score a batter later with a Jack Mayfield (2-for-4) two-run single.
Fresno extended the advantage to 10-0 in the bottom of the fifth with 12 batters coming to the plate. A Tony Kemp walk, Ferguson single and a wild pitch set up a second and third for Kyle Tucker. After fighting off a couple of pitches, Tucker scorched a single up the middle, tallying both runners. That was it for Tacoma starter Max Povse (1-3, loss) who endured four innings, collecting nine hits, seven runs (earned), walking three and striking out four. Tucker and Tyler White (2-for-3) would trot home later when A.J. Reed (2-for-4) yanked a triple to the gap off of reliever Ashton Goudeau. Reed galloped home on a J.D. Davis groundout. Finally, Kemp lasered home the sixth run of the inning against Ryan Garton.
Tucker extended his modest and team-high hit streak to six games while Reed recorded his second straight multi-hit game.
The two teams are back at it Thursday night from Chukchansi Park. Tacoma RHP Christian Bergman (2-1, 2.49) and Fresno RHP Rogelio Armenteros (0-0, 5.65) are the probable starters. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PT.
