Iowa Cubs News Release

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - An eighth-inning comeback by the Oklahoma City Dodgers (14-4) dropped the Iowa Cubs (4-14) to a 4-2 loss, Thursday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The I-Cubs have strung together five-consecutive losses.

A pair of runs in the second was almost enough for the I-Cubs, but the Dodgers flipped the narrative late in the game. Chris Gimenez singled with one out to light the early fire for Iowa and sped from first to home on a Chesny Young triple to break the scoreless game. With two down, Duane Underwood Jr. helped himself with an RBI single, collecting the first RBI for an Iowa pitcher this season.

Underwood drove the I-Cubs through 5.0, allowing just three hits, walking one and fanning five. The Dodgers were scoreless until the sixth when Breyvic Valera punched a leadoff homer off Cory Mazzoni, Iowa's first arm out of the 'pen. Mazzoni settled in from there and allowed just two more hits and struck out one through 1.2 innings.

Taking over for Mazzoni, Justin Hancock (0-1) got a quick out to end the seventh, but broke down in the eighth. After a leadoff walk, Oklahoma City followed with four hits in the inning to plate three and capture the lasting lead.

Iowa's offense was a team effort as its eight hits came from seven different players. Taylor Davis collected the only multi-hit game, going 2-for-4.

The series continues tomorrow with a 7:05 p.m. CT game at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. To catch all the action, listen on AM 940 or www.iowacubs.com.
