Sky Sox Down the Grizzlies, 6-4

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox (34-32) defeated the Fresno Grizzlies (37-33) 6-4 in front of 5,304 fans at Security Service Field on Saturday evening. The Sox got a fantastic pitching performance from right-hander Mike Esposito (3-0) who threw six innings allowing five hits and three runs to pick up the win.

Joe Koshansky put the Sox on the scoreboard 1-0 in the first inning with his RBI double that scored Clint Barmes, who extended his hitting streak to a Sky Sox season-high twelve games with a single. Seth Smith added two more runs with his RBI single and Joe Gaetti finished the scoring with his sacrifice fly to make it 4-0.

The Grizzlies cut the deficit in half at 4-2 after Ivan Ochoa blasted a home run to left field off Esposito the second inning.

In the fifth inning, Jayson Nix led off with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch by Grizzlies right-hander Sun Woo Kim. Ian Stewart drove him in with a sacrifice fly to go ahead 5-2.

A double steal by Jayson Nix and Joe Koshansky scored Nix to make it 6-3 Sky Sox in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The lead was cut to two runs 6-4 in the eighth inning after an RBI double by Grizzlies right fielder Brian Howritz

Right-hander Sun-Woo Kim (2-2) took the loss for the Grizzlies giving up nine hits and five runs.

Right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez (4-3, 6.95) will pitch for the Sky Sox and Right-hander Chris Begg (5-1, 3.28) will pitch for the Grizzlies on Sunday afternoon. Game time is 1:05 pm.
