Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

Monday evening started off well for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox as numerous players and coaches received 2007 National League Championship rings for their efforts with the big league club last season. Unfortunately, it didn't end so well as the team fell to Tacoma 9-4 at Security Service Field.

Trailing 1-0 in the fifth inning, the wheels fell off for Sky Sox starting pitcher John Koronka. Three consecutive hits to leadoff the inning led to three runs and a 4-0 deficit for the Sky Sox. A two-run single by Rainier's third baseman Matt Tuiasosopo's broke the game open for Tacoma.

The Sky Sox fared much better once Rainiers starting pitcher was pulled from the game to start the fifth inning. Cory Sullivan knocked a two-out, two-run double off Tacoma reliever Eric Cyr to cut the deficit in half. Sean Barker's two-out double in the next inning would tie the game at four all.

The rally would be for naught as the Rainiers lit-up Sky Sox reliever Chris George for a second straight day. George (0-2) took the loss after allowing five runs in just one inning of work. In the series, George allowed eight runs in just one inning over two games.

The Sky Sox host the Portland Beavers Tuesday evening at Security Service Field as the teams begin a four-game series. Shawn Estes (1-1, 3.75) is scheduled to pitch for the Beavers while Victor Zambrano (0-1, 7.45) will make his home debut for the Sky Sox. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM.
