Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK - Houston Astros infielder Kaz Matsui will continue his minor league rehabilitation stint with the Triple-A Round Rock Express, joining the team in Oklahoma City on Tuesday.

Matsui, who signed with Houston as a free agent in December, was sidelined in March with an anal fissure. He began his rehabilitation with Double-A Corpus Christi on April 8, picking up a double in three at-bats with the Hooks. The 32-year-old went 2-for-4 with a run in two doubles in Tulsa on April 10.

He is slated to play five innings for the Express on Tuesday, seven on Wednesday and nine on Thursday.

Matsui, 32, hit .288 with 24 doubles and 84 runs in 104 games for Colorado last season, most notably ramping up his offense in the postseason.

Matsui, the first Japanese position player in Astros history, batted .417 with one home run and six RBI for the Rockies in October's National League Division Series against Philadelphia. His grand slam in the fourth inning of Game 2 broke the game open for Colorado, which went on to reach the World Series.
