Beloit Sky Carp News Release

The Sky Carp used a clutch two-out RBI single from Kyler Castillo in the 10th inning to sneak past the Lansing Lugnuts 12-11 in a thriller to open the second half on Friday night at Jackson Field.

The game was a see-saw affair through and through, as the contest featured five lead changes and three ties - but ended with Beloit's second straight extra innings win.

Beloit snagged the first lead with five runs in the second, but Lansing quickly clapped back with four runs of their own in the bottom of the second to set the tone for the rest of the game.

After Beloit pushed the lead to 7-4 with a 2-RBI triple from Nasim Nunez in the third, the Lugnuts scored once in the fourth, twice in the fifth and three times in the sixth to eventually snag a 10-9 lead.

The lead was short lived, as Will Banfield delivered a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to knot the game at 10.

After Jackson Rose tossed a zero on the board for the Sky Carp, Beloit pulled ahead in the eighth in a wild way. Davis Bradshaw started the inning with a triple into the gap. While he was racing to third, Lansing second baseman Euribiel Angeles threw the ball into the Sky Carp dugout, allowing Bradshaw to score.

The lead held until the bottom of the ninth, when the game turned on the very first pitch of the half inning. With Justin Evans on the mound, Kevin Richards crushed the very first pitch he saw in High-A for a game-tying solo homer.

Evans allowed two more runners to reach, but eventually stranded the winning run on second to send the game to extras.

After Trayson Kubo recorded an out, Bradshaw was intentionally walked, setting the double play in order. Kubo induced a double play ball off the bat of Dalvy Rosario, but Rosario beat out the relay throw, setting up runners on the corners with two outs for Castillo.

After Castillo came through in his first at-bat of the day, Evans got redemption in the bottom of the 10th, setting Lansing down 1-2-3 to end the game.

With the victory, Beloit seals at least a series split with the Lugnuts. The six-game set continues tomorrow at 7:05 eastern time, with Evan Fitterer on the mound for the Sky Carp. Fans can listen for free on the Big Radio app.
