Beloit Sky Carp News Release
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa- The Beloit Sky Carp picked an exciting way to open play in the Midwest League's second half.
Beloit pounded out 13 hits, established a 10-2 lead and then had to hang on for dear life in an 11-9 victory over Cedar Rapids Friday night.
The Sky Carp opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the third inning. Davis Bradshaw drove in one with a sacrifice fly, and Kahlil Watson hit his sixth homer of the season and second in as many games to make it 2-0.
Tanner Allen drew a bases-loaded walk in the fourth inning to make it 3-0, and Bradshaw followed with a base hit that scored a pair of runners. After the Kernels plated a pair of runs, a wild pitch plated Watson in the fifth inning, and Joe Mack's RBI single scored another run to make it 7-2.
Jacob Berry stayed hot with a bases-clearing double to make it 10-2 before the Kernels rallied, scoring once in the seventh and five times in the eighth to cut the lead to 10-8.
A Ynmanol Marinez RBI single made it 11-8 in the ninth before Caleb Wurster allowed a run but ultimately shut the door and picked up his second save of the season.
Jared Poland (2-3) got the win for Beloit after pitching six innings and allowing two runs. He struck out a season-best eight batters.
The two teams will meet again Saturday at 6:35 p.m.
