Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, MI- Muskegon Lumberjacks goaltender Jan Skorpik made 27 saves on 28 Green Bay Gambler shots, leading Muskegon to a 4-1 win Friday night.
The Gamblers had scored four or more goals in eight consecutive games until arriving in Muskegon, where their streak was thwarted by Skorpik and the Jacks' sterling penalty kill.
Green Bay's offense started strong, scoring 2:05 into the game, but from there Muskegon scored four unanswered goals to earn their fourth win in their last five games.
Muskegon captain Dylan Wendt tied the game with 13:10 to play in the first, making it 1-1 by the first intermission.
In the second, Green Bay applied heavy pressure on the power play, getting four man-advantage opportunities, including a five-minute major. However, Skorpik and the Muskegon penalty kill held strong, killing off all six Green Bay power plays on the night.
After the killers shut down Green Bay, Cam Berg registered his team-leading 13th goal of the season to put Muskegon ahead 2-1 with 3:22 to play in the second.
In the third, the Jacks quickly added to their lead, getting a Rhett Pitlick goal four minutes into the final frame. Pitlick used his speed to get by the Gambler defender, then utilized his skill to tuck the puck underneath goalie Matt Davis.
Philip Tresca would put the game out of reach later in the third, scoring his second of the season to put the Jacks up 4-1. In the third period, Muskegon scored twice and outshot Green Bay 19-7.
After allowing a power-play goal in five-straight games, Muskegon has not surrendered a power-play tally in their last two games.
The Lumberjacks and Gamblers rematch tomorrow night at Mercy Health Arena. Puck drop is slated for 7:00pm and the game will be aired live on the Lumberjacks Broadcast Network.
Lumberjacks Goal Scorers: Wendt (5), Berg (13), Pitlick (7), Tresca (2)
Lumberjacks Assists: Larkin (3), Quinn Hutson (4), Williams (6), Sinclair (3)
