Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
FREDERICK, MD - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Texas Rangers, were nearly no-hit Tuesday, falling 3-0 to the Frederick Keys at Harry Grove Stadium.
Without a hit, and only one runner, heading into the seventh inning, the Pelicans finally broke through against Keys starter Rick Zagone. The lefty allowed a lined single to left by Jake Skole to lead off the seventh and brake up the no-no. Skole would be left at second base when the inning ended.
On the flip side, Kyle Hendricks pitched just as well as Zagone into the sixth inning, when he was hit for three runs, only two earned. Jeremy Nowak opened the frame reaching on an error by Santiago Chirino. Two batters later Matt Sweeney doubled Nowak in. Nowak scored himself when Michael Flacco homered to left. The Keys led 3-0.
Hendricks tossed a quality start, his third of the season and second straight. He suffered his third loss of the year as well. Zagone took the win, going six and two thirds, allowing only the one hit. Andy Loomis earned his first save. The Pelicans have now not recorded a hit in 16 of the last 27 innings they've played.
Myrtle Beach and Frederick play game three of their four game set Wednesday at 7:00 at Harry Grove Stadium. Wilmer Font takes the ball for Myrtle Beach with Randol Rojas set to piggyback after him. For more information visit MyrtleBeachPelicans.com.
