THE HILLCATS: Last night, the Hillcats and Mudcats were fogged out...A thick fog over the field made it too difficult to see, and it was determined that it was unsafe to play...It was just the second time in the 18-year history of the Hillcats that a game was delayed by fog...The Hillcats and Mudcats will resume last night's game where it left off in the top of the fifth inning with nobody on base and nobody out...The score is 4-1 Mudcats...
VS. CAROLINA: The Hillcats are 1-3 against the Mudcats this year...This is the inaugural Carolina League season for the Mudcats...They make their first trip to the "Hill City" this week...The Mudcats were the Double-A affiliate for the Cincinnati Reds last year and are now the Advanced-A affiliate for the Cleveland Indians (2011, Kinston Indians)...Last year, the Hillcats went 6-13 against Kinston...
JUST AS WE'RE STARTING A WINNING STREAK: Lynchburg has won three in a row, sweeping the Frederick Keys over the weekend...This is their first three-game winning streak since winning their first five games of the season...The three-game streak came after the Hillcats worst five-game stretch of the season as they lost four of five from 4/20-4/26 (two rain-outs)...Three of those four losses in that stretch came at the hands of the Hillcats opponent tonight, the Carolina Mudcats...
RUNNING OUT OF BASEBALLS: The Hillcats lead the Carolina League with 26 home runs this season...They've hit at least one dinger in each of their 11 contests, and 16 total in that span...In that stretch, C Evan Gattis hit six home runs, INF Matt Weaver hit three, 3B Edward Salcedo hit two, and SS Nick Ahmed, C Ryan Query, C Braeden Schlehuber, 1B Chris Garcia, and 2B Tommy La Stella each had one...Through 21 games this season the 'Cats have homered in 18 of them...The exceptions, 4/10 vs SAL (W, 6-2), 4/11 vs SAL (W, 4-1), and 4/16 at SAL (L, 5-0)...Lynchburg hit a season-high three homers in one game 4/24 at CAR...They've hit back-to-back home run twice....Both times, it was Gattis followed by Salcedo (4/20 vs FRE, 4/24 at CAR)...
SETTING THE TABLE: CF Matt Lipka went 3-for-4 Sunday with a walk and a team-high, and career-high, four runs scored...He now has 18 runs scored on the season, which is fourth most in the Carolina League...He's two behind teammate Nick Ahmed who is tied for the league lead with 20...Lipka is currently on a five-game hitting streak...He is 9-for-21 in that span with a double and eight runs scored...
CAN I GET YOU STARTED WITH ANYTHING?: Hillcats starters have posted a 1.50 ERA over the last four games, allowing just four earned runs in 24 innings pitched...The starters and the team are 3-1 in that stretch...LHP Dimasther Delgado has been activated from DL and started last night taking LHP Ronan Pacheco's spot in the rotation for now...Delgado went four innings and gave up three earned runs on five hits before getting relieved in the fifth inning, just before the game was suspended...He currently on the hook for the loss...Delgado played in Lynchburg in 2011, made 23 appearances, 17 starts...Went 7-5 as a starter with a 3.94 ERA...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: LHP J.D. Reichenbach was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in 2006 in the 20th round, but he didn't sign...Went on to play college ball at Elon University...After four years at Elon, he signed as a Minor League Free Agent with the Cleveland Indians in 2010...He made at least four starts in each season he played at Elon but was primarily a reliever...Made his professional debut with Mahoning (NYP) in 2010...Made 20 appearances out of the bullpen...Went 1-3 with a 3.38 ERA...Promoted to Low-A Lake County in 2011...Went 7-2 with a 3.65 ERA in 30 appearances, nine starts...Went 3-1 with a 3.56 ERA as a starter...In a brief call-up to Advanced-A Kinston, went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA...One relief appearance and one start (5.2ip scoreless)...Went up to Triple-A Columbus at the end of the season, made one relief appearance, 9/4, pitched one scoreless inning, one hit, one walk, one strikeout...He is 0-0 with a 4.63 ERA in nine relief outings thus far...Pitched twice against Lynchburg last week...Gave up four runs, earned, in two and one-third innings on five hits and four walks, struck out two...INF Matt Weaver homered off him...
GAME TWO'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Brett Brach was selected in the tenth round of the 2009 draft out of Monmouth University...Made his professional debut with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in the Short-season New York/Penn League...Went 5-2 with a 2.19 ERA in 15 starts, which ranked second in the league...Moved up to Low-A Lake County in 2010...Went 5-8 with a 3.46 ERA...Struck out 90 in 119.2 innings, while walking just 28...Ranked fourth among all Midwest League starters with a 2.03 BB/9IP ratio...Promoted to Hi-A Kinston, where he made two appearances, went 0-1 with a 3.38 ERA...Pitched at three levels in 2011, Kinston, Double-A Akron, and Triple-A Columbus...Went 6-9 with a 3.60 ERA for Kinston in 21 appearances and 19 starts...So far this year, he is 0-0 with a 6.39 ERA in four appearances, two starts...Has walked eight batters and hit four in his first 12.2 innings pitched this season...Tonight, he makes his second start against Lynchburg this season...Went five innings against the Hillcats last Thursday, allowed three runs, earned, on six hits, two walks, and a hit batter...Struck out six and didn't factor into the decision...
