SUGAR LAND, Texas - The Sugar Land Skeeters lost a no-hitter in the top of the ninth on a go-ahead two-run home run from Southern Maryland's Cyle Hankerd giving the Blue Crabs a 3-2 win in front of 3,378 fans at Constellation Field. The loss drops the Skeeters to 16-22 while Southern Maryland improves to 23-15.

In his first appearance after coming off the disabled list, Sugar Land's starting pitcher, Roy Merritt, was impressive in two innings of work. The southpaw allowed just one walk in retiring six of seven batters faced with a strikeout.

After both pitchers put up zeroes for the first three innings, Sugar Land finally scratched across a run to claim an early 1-0 lead. Delwyn Young belted a double into left-center field with one out and moved up to third on a groundout to the right side. Jeremy Barfield followed with a blast to the warning track that one-hopped over the wall for a ground-rule double and breaking the scoring seal.

Sugar Land added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. Dustin Martin drove a single through the right-side and Barfield followed with a base knock through the left-side, moving Martin to third. Chris Wallace picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice to third, increasing the lead to 2-0.

After Merritt, Derek Blacksher, Ramon Delgado and Derrick Loop combined to no-hit the Blue Crabs for the first eight innings of the game, Southern Maryland finally cracked the hit column in a big way with two outs in the top of the ninth. John Lujan surrendered a pair of one-out walks and balked both runners into scoring position. Zach Wilson drove in a run with an RBI groundout, breaking up the shutout and cutting the score to 2-1. Cyle Hankerd hit a two-run home run for the Blue Crabs' first hit of the game and giving the Southern Maryland a 3-2 lead.

Fernando Nieve induced a groundout, flyout and strikeout in the bottom of the ninth to earn his second save of the season.
