Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release

(Sugar Land TX., June 2, 2015)---Tonight was Southern Maryland's eighth comeback win here in 2015, and by far the most special, as the Blue Crabs beat the Sugar Land Skeeters 3-2, with manager Stan Cliburn earning win number 1,500 for his managerial career.

Sugar Land's pitching staff had a no hitter going through eight innings of play. The Skeeters got on the board first offensively in the bottom of the fourth with a Jeremy Barfield ground rule double to score Delwyn Young to make it 1-0. Sugar Land added another run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 2-0.

As fate would have it, Southern Maryland's offense showed up in the top of the ninth to save the day. With one out Fred Lewis and Jake Opitz walked back to back to put runners at first and second. John Lujan then balked to put runners at second and third. Zach Wilson then grounded out to score Lewis to make it a 2-1 ballgame. Cyle Hankerd, who homered twice yesterday came to bat and banged a two run shot over the wall to make it 3-2 and complete the comeback. RHP Erik Hamren sat the Skeeters down in order one, two, three in the bottom of the frame to send Stan Cliburn to his 1,500 victory.

Southern Maryland returns home tomorrow, and will play game one of a four game set against the Bridgeport Bluefish. The first pitch is set for 7:05 P.M. RHP Brian Baker (2-2, 4.02) will start for Southern Maryland, and LHP Mike Antonini (2-3, 4.24) will throw for Bridgeport.
