SUGAR LAND, Texas - The Sugar Land Skeeters bullpen was spectacular and the offense exploded for 13 runs in a 13-5 rout of Southern Maryland. The win improves the Skeeters' record to 16-21 while the Blue Crabs fall to 22-15.

Relievers Andrew Carpenter, Andrew Johnston, Derrick Loop and Adrian Martin combined to allow just one hit and one walk over the final five innings of work after starter Matt Wright allowed five runs in 1.2 innings on the mound.

Southern Maryland pushed across a run in the top of the second after Wright issued a pair of walks. Renny Osuna and Cyle Hankerd drew free passes before Daryle Ward singled through the right side of the infield, giving the Blue Crabs a 1-0 advantage.

After waiting until the final inning of the game earlier in the day, the Skeeters wasted no time in getting the offense going. Willy Taveras drew a leadoff walk and Dustin Martin reached on a throwing error on his sacrifice bunt that was fired wide of first base. Delwyn Young singled through the left side, bringing in Taveras and tying the game at one.

Southern Maryland would push across four runs in the top of the second, chasing Wright from the game. Jamar Walton, Craig Maddox, Antone DeJesus, Frew Lewis and Osuna all logged base hits to open the inning, pushing in three of the four runs. Ward singled down the right field line with two outs to push in another and stake the Blue Crabs to a 5-1 lead.

The Skeeters would battle back in the third and fourth to tie and claim the lead. Young blasted a home run in the third inning, cutting the score to 5-2. In the fourth, Sugar Land scored five runs from the first five batters of the inning to claim a 7-5 lead. Chris Wallace singled through the left side, Patrick Palmeiro poked a bloop single into right and Denny Almonte drew a full-count walk to load the bases. Amadeo Zazueta roped a bases-clearing double down the line, doubling his RBI total for the season with the game-tying two-bagger. Taveras reached on a three-base error on a sacrifice bunt, scoring the go-ahead run before coming in to score on a sacrifice fly from Dustin Martin.

Sugar Land plated a pair of insurance runs in the fifth. Wallace doubled to deep right-center and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Almonte hit a fly ball to center, plenty deep enough for Wallace to score and expand the lead to 8-5. Zazueta reached on an infield single and stole second to move into scoring position. Taveras blasted a double down the line in left to score Zazueta and inflate the cushion to 9-5.

The Skeeters would add a trio of runs in the sixth to pad the lead to 12-5. Palmeiro blasted a two RBI double for his second hit on the evening.
