Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
(SUGAR LAND, Texas) - The Sugar Land Skeeters won their fifth game in a row Saturday night, taking down the Albuquerque Isotopes, 7-2, at Constellation Field.
Jeremy Peña and Norel Gonzalez each homered to back a strong effort from the Skeeters bullpen. Left-hander Kit Scheetz made a spot start, as scheduled start Peter Solomon was recalled by the Houston Astros prior to Saturday's game.
Scheetz tossed three innings, allowing a run, and striking out two. Jon Olczak followed Scheetz and fired two scoreless innings to go with three strikeouts, collecting the winning decision. Bryan Abreu, Andre Scrubb, Riley Ferrell and Colin McKee combined to toss the final four innings, allowing a run on just two hits and picking up a combined seven strikeouts.
Peña gave the Skeeters a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning with a two-run shot to left field. It was Peña's fourth home run over his last 10 games, and he's also hit .429 over that stretch. Gonzalez delivered a three-run homer as part of a four-run sixth inning, with JJ Matijevic adding an RBI single as well. It was Gonzalez's third home run since joining the Skeeters. Miguelangel Sierra closed out the Skeeters' scoring with an RBI double in the seventh.
CJ Hinojosa went 3-for-5 in the victory, extending his hitting streak to 15 games, which is the longest active hitting streak in Triple A West. Jose Siri has the longest hitting streak for the Skeeters this season at 17 games.
Albuquerque opened the scoring Saturday night in the first on an RBI double from Elehuris Montero, who also drove in Albuquerque's other run in the eighth inning on a ground out.
The Skeeters' five-game winning streak is one away from matching their season high as they've also won nine of their last 12 games.
Right-hander Hunter Brown, rated as the Astros' No. 3 overall prospect, is set to take the mound at 2:05 p.m. on Sunday at Constellation Field. The Isotopes will send out left-hander Ryan Rolison, who's rated as the Colorado Rockies' No. 3 overall prospect.
