Today's Game: The Oklahoma City Dodgers try to snap a three-game losing skid when they continue their series against the Round Rock Express at 2:05 p.m. at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. OKC has lost three consecutive games for the first time this month and are 0-3 to start a series for the fifth time this season...The Dodgers will take the field this series as Cielo Azul de Oklahoma City and Round Rock will play as Los Chupacabras de Round Rock throughout ¡Celebración Cielo Azul!, presented by OG&E.-
Last Game: The Round Rock Express scored four runs with two outs in the ninth inning to come back and beat the Oklahoma City Dodgers, 8-5, Saturday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The Dodgers trailed, 4-3, in the bottom of the eighth inning when Matt Davidson hit a two-run homer. The Express loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth inning and Josh Jung lined a two-run double to right-center field to put Round Rock back in front. Domingo Leyba followed with a two-run double to extend the lead to 8-5. The Dodgers then went down in order in the bottom of the ninth inning on a total of five pitches. The Express took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, but the Dodgers went ahead in the third inning when Steven Souza Jr. lifted a two-run homer to left field. Omar Estévez homered in the fourth inning to make it a 3-1 game. The Express scored three times in the sixth inning, including a go-ahead two-run homer by Yohel Pozo.
Today's Probable Pitchers: Mitch White (1-0) makes his first appearance with OKC since Aug. 5, as well as his sixth start and ninth overall appearance with OKC this season...White most recently pitched 2.0 scoreless and hitless innings of relief Sept. 13 with the Los Angeles Dodgers against Arizona with one strikeout to finish off a 5-1 win. He was optioned the following day when Kenley Jansen was reinstated from paternity leave...His last start was Sept. 8 with LAD in St. Louis. He was charged with the loss in the 5-4 defeat, allowing four runs and five hits over 5.0 innings with one home run and six strikeouts...Since he last pitched for OKC in early August, White has made five appearances (three starts) with the Los Angeles Dodgers and two starts for Low-A Rancho Cucamonga...White has been recalled by Los Angeles nine times throughout the season, making 20 appearances, including four starts. In MLB action, he is 1-3 with a 3.74 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and .218 BAA, and he has 48 strikeouts against 17 walks in 45.2 IP...He was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the second round (65th overall) of the 2016 MLB Draft out of Santa Clara University as a redshirt sophomore...Tonight is his first appearance of the season against Round Rock and third career appearance against the team after he made two starts against the Express in 2019.
Vidal Nuño (5-1) is scheduled to piggyback White...Nuño last pitched Sept. 13 in Salt Lake when he made a spot start, allowing two runs and four hits over 4.0 innings. He did not issue a walk and recorded five K's over 4.0 innings and did not factor into the decision of OKC's 12-2 win. The lefty retired the final 11 batters he faced...Tonight is his fifth appearance of the season against the Express (3-0, 1.93 ERA, 14.0 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, 9 K).
Against the Express: 2021: 14-12 2019: 6-10 All-time: 144-120 At OKC: 67-60 The Oklahoma City Dodgers and Round Rock Express close out their Red Dirt Rumble rivalry series at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark...The teams last met for a rain-shortened five-game series in OKC Aug. 12-17, with OKC winning the set, 4-1...The first 18 games of the season between the teams were played at Dell Diamond in Round Rock, with the Dodgers going 10-8 in those games...OKC has won 14 of the last 22 meetings after opening the season with four consecutive losses to the Express in May, as well as 13 of the last 20 games. However, Round Rock has won three consecutive games against the Dodgers for the first time since winning each of the first four games of the season May 6-9...The Dodgers have outscored the Express 135-128 this season, while Round Rock has outhit OKC, 225-209, with each team hitting 37 homers. The Express have homered at least once in 23 of the first 26 games...Only 371 miles separate Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark from Dell Diamond, making it the shortest distance between the Dodgers and any of their Triple-A opponents...With a victory today, the Dodgers will clinch a win in the inaugural Red Dirt Rumble.
Es Divertido Ser Un Fan: Throughout this series, OKC and Round Rock will take the field with their MiLB "Es Divertido Ser Un Fan™" ("It's Fun to Be a Fan™") identities - Cielo Azul de Oklahoma City and Los Chupacabras de Round Rock. In addition to players and coaches wearing Cielo Azul jerseys and hats during the series, the gameday environment during ¡Celebración Cielo Azul! will include Latin music, colorful and festive concourse decorations, specialty concessions, unique entertainment, live performances and a Spanish-speaking public address announcer for select games...The name Cielo Azul - translated to "Blue Sky" - was established in 2018 and derived from three key factors: Incorporating the color blue, which is a key component of the Dodgers organization; the vibrancy of Oklahoma's blue skies, and the breadth of the diversity of Hispanic and Latino culture that resides under those skies; and as a tribute to Dodgers legendary pitcher Fernando Valenzuela, who looked up at the sky during his windup.
Stumbling Block: The Dodgers entered this series having won seven of their last eight games and nine of their last 11 games, but they've been handed losses each of the last three nights. OKC was 9-3 to start August and had not lost consecutive games prior to Thursday's series opener...With three straight wins, the Express has leaped the Dodgers in the Triple-A West East Division and now holds second place by one game. It's the first time OKC has been in third place since entering play June 29.
Down in a Hole, Losin' My Soul: For the fifth time this season, the Dodgers have started a series in a 0-3 hole. They have lost the first three games of a series for the second time in the last three home series and for the third time in the last five series overall...In the previous four series this season that the Dodgers fell behind, 0-3, they went on to lose each series, only winning as many as two games once...The Dodgers have started a series 0-4 just once in 2021 - their season-opening series in Round Rock May 6-9.
Before It's Too Late: Saturday marked the first time all season the Dodgers lost a game when leading after eight innings, as they had been 53-0 in such situations prior to last night. The last time the team lost when leading after eight innings Aug. 5, 2019 at Las Vegas, and the last time it happened at home was June 9, 2019 versus Fresno...Saturday was also only the second time this season an opponent rallied to tie the game and/or take the lead when trailing entering their final at-bat. On Aug. 5 at Albuquerque, the Dodgers led, 7-6, entering the bottom of the 10th inning before the Isotopes scored twice to win.
Dinger Details: All five OKC runs scored last night were the result of three home runs. The Dodgers have hit at least one home run in 11 straight games, tying their longest streak of the season (previously July 13-25). They've gone deep 23 times during the streak, with multiple homers in eight of the 11 games, including seven of the last nine and five of the last six...On the other hand, the Dodgers have now surrendered 40 homers over the last 27 games - second-most in the league since Aug. 19. Opponents have hit at least one homer in 22 of the 27 games, including the last six straight (7 HR). Eight of the last 10 homers by opponents have either tied the game or given them the lead, including last night's sixth-inning two-run homer by Yohel Pazo that gave Round Rock a 4-3 edge.
Batting Around: After compiling 29 runs on 44 hits over the previous three games, the Dodgers' offense has been held to eight runs and 13 hits in the last two games. And over the last 25 innings, the team has scored 10 runs while batting .207 (18x87). During that time they are 6-for-33 with runners on base (.182)...Four of OKC's seven hits Saturday went for extra bases and the Dodgers have 51 extra-base hits over the last 11 games. They have tallied at least four extra-base hits in eight of the last nine games, and the team's 68 extra-base hits since Sept. 1 are second-most in Triple-A West (Reno, 79)...The Dodgers have scored at least five runs in 12 of the first 15 games of September.
Matt the Bat: Matt Davidson hit his team-leading 26th home run of the season with a go-ahead, two-run homer in the eighth inning Saturday night and finished 2-for-4. He's hit safely in eight of his last 11 games, going 17-for-48 (.354) with nine extra-base hits (5 HR). He's also homered in three of the last four games...In 17 games since returning from the Injured List Aug. 28, Davidson has hit eight homers, collected 12 extra-base hits (8 HR) and tallied 25 RBI...Including last night, Davidson has served as the team's designated hitter 11 times, and in those games he's batted .326 (14x43) with five homers and 11 RBI.
RISPy Business: The Dodgers entered the current series Thursday batting .381 with runners in scoring position over the previous eight games, but they are 2-for-22 over the last three games, including 0-for-the-last-10 and 1-for-the-last-19...The Dodgers are 9-6 in September. In their nine wins, they've batted .412 (40x97) with RISP, but in the five losses they've batted just .133 (6x45)...The team recorded just one at-bat with a runner in scoring position last night and none after the first inning.
The Runaround: Saturday marked the fourth straight game the Dodgers allowed six or more runs and fifth time in the last six games. In the last four games, opponents have scored 28 runs and are batting .385 (15x39) with runners in scoring position...The Express scored each of their last six runs with two outs, all coming on hits in 0-2 or 1-2 counts. They drove in seven of their eight runs when behind in the count, including three hits on 0-2 pitches that resulted in five RBI.
Around the Horn: Steven Souza Jr. returned to OKC from his second stint the Los Angeles Dodgers and collected a team-high three hits Saturday, going 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and a double. In his last four games with OKC, Souza is 7-for-16 with a home run and four doubles...Dodgers pitchers racked up 12 strikeouts for their sixth double-digit strikeout game in the last seven games and 59th double-digit strikeout game of the season...Cristian Santana's nine-game hitting streak came to an end Saturday. He went 17-for-38 (.447) with two homers, four doubles, 11 RBI and eight runs scored during the streak...The Dodgers have lost three straight games at home for the fifth time this year, tying their longest home losing skid of the season...Today is Luke Raley's 27th birthday.
