
Skeeters Come Back for 8-5 Win in El Paso Opener

(EL PASO, Texas) - The Sugar Land Skeeters worked an 8-5 comeback victory Thursday night to open their road series against the El Paso Chihuahuas,
The Skeeters used a five-run seventh inning to help erase a four-run deficit. Alex De Goti walked with the bases loaded, CJ Hinojosa hit an RBI single and Bryan De La Cruz finished the inning out with a two-run double. Ronnie Dawson also added an RBI groundout in the seventh.
Dawson, who had not played since June 11, went 1-for-4 with a doble and two RBIs. De La Cruz had his ninth multi-RBI game, which is tied with Jose Siri for the Skeeters team lead.
El Paso jumped out to a 4-0 lead through the third inning. Tucupita Marcano led off the game with a home run, which signaled the end of the night for Skeeters starter Jojanse Torres.
Michael Papierski drove in the Skeeters' first run of the night on an RBI single in the fifth. Dawson hit an opposite-field double followed by a Hinojosa RBI groundout in the sixth inning.
Seth Martinez, Kit Scheetz, Nivaldo Rodriguez Michael Kelly and Ronel Blanco combined to finish the game for the Skeeters, with Torres not recording an out in the contest.
Rodriguez tossed a scoreless fifth inning to pick up the win and Blanco struck out two through a scoreless ninth for his fifth save of the year.
Skeeters right-hander Brett Conine will face El Paso left-hander MacKenzie Gore at 7:05 p.m. CT on Friday at Southwest University Park.
