Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release

SUGAR LAND, Texas - The Sugar Land Skeeters were plagued by a pair of solo home runs in a 2-1 loss to the Long Island Ducks in front of 6,750 Super Heroes in attendance on a beautiful Friday evening at Constellation Field. The loss drops the Skeeters to 11-16 in the second half and 47-50 overall.

Derek Blacksher hurled a gem for the Skeeters, but two of the three hits allowed over 6.0 innings were home runs. He fanned seven in the loss, his second-highest total of the season.

Long Island struck first in the top of the second. Cody Puckett led off the inning with a solo shot to left off Blacksher to take an early 1-0 advantage.

The Skeeters wasted no time in responding to the early offensive output from the Ducks, pushing across the equalizer in the bottom of the second. Travis Scott poked a one-out single into center. On a hit-and-run, Johan Limonta sprayed a double deep into the left-center alley to score Scott easily and knot the score up at one.

The Ducks hit another solo-home run in the top of the fourth to reclaim the lead. Mike Blanke lifted Blacksher's 2-0 offering to left with two outs to regain the edge and cap the scoring, 2-1.

Ramon Delgado, Adrian Martin and Robbie Weinhardt combined to keep the Ducks off the scoreboard in the seventh, eighth and ninth, allowing just one hit and striking out four.

In the bottom of the ninth, Jeff Dominguez blasted a ball to left that caromed off the glove of Bryan Sabatella for a two-base error to open the inning. Delwyn Young worked a free pass off Amalio Diaz to put the tying run on base. Daryle Ward rolled over on a pitch, grounding into a 6-4-3 double play, but moving Dominguez to third. Chris Wallace struck out to end the Skeeters rally and the contest, 2-1.

The Skeeters wrap up the four-game homestand against Long Island tomorrow. First pitch with the Ducks is slated for 6:05 p.m. with gates opening at 5. Watch all the action at home on ESPN3.com.
