Bridgeport Bluefish News Release
(Bridgeport, CT) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (17-10, 43-54) defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers (17-10, 45-52) 4-0 at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Friday night and have now won two of the first three of the four-game series between first place clubs. The Bluefish pitching staff has now tossed nine shutouts on the season.
Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Robert Carson (3-0) was overpowering in the victory firing seven scoreless innings, striking out 12 while not walking a batter. The left hander needed just 85 pitches on the night, throwing 61 for strikes. The 12 punchouts were a season-high by a Bluefish pitcher, surpassing an 11 strikeout performance by Cory Riordan on July 4th in a 9-1 victory over the York Revolution at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Lancaster Starting Pitcher Madison Boer (0-1) suffered the loss in his Barnstormers debut, lasting just three innings, surrendering three runs on six hits, walking one and striking out one.
Bridgeport took the lead in the bottom half of the third inning off Boer and never looked back, picking up three runs on four hits. Ethan Chapman led off the frame with a single. Welington Dotel singled with one out to put runners at first and second. Wilson Batista then came back to 'haunt" his former team on Ghostbusters Night here at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard, lacing an RBI single, plating Chapman with the game's first run. Andres Rodriguez followed Batista with a two-run double, and the 'Fish had the early 3-0 lead. The three-run cushion was more than enough for Carson, who closed his night out retiring the last seven batters he faced. Bridgeport is now 4-0 in games in which the southpaw has started in 2015, and Carson in those starts has a miniscule 0.93 ERA and a WHIP of 0.98. Bryant Nelson, Dotel, and Batista led the offensive attack for Bridgeport with two hits each, as the 'Fish collected 12 hits overall, marking the 35th time in 2015 that Bridgeport has registered ten hits or more in a single game.
