Sizzling Shawn Williams Tabbed As Can-Am League Player Of The Week

Richmond Hill, Ontario - Brockton Rox infielder Shawn Williams was selected as the Can-Am League Player of the Week on Monday by PointStreak, the official league statistician.

With the surging Rox in the midst of a nine-game winning streak, Williams batted .559 on the week, going 19-for-34 and recording a hit in all seven games. Nine of his hits fell for extra bases, including four home runs, propelling Brockton to a 6-1 record. With three four-hit games, his most impressive performance came on Monday, August 9, when the Salt Lake City native went 4-for-5 with two homers, five RBI and four runs scored in Brockton's15-11 win over Worcester. The 26-year-old collected 12 RBI and improved his batting average on the season to .436 in 78 at-bats.

The son of former Boston Red Sox manager Jimy Williams, Shawn spent four years in the Tampa Bay Rays' minor league system, reaching as high as Class A, and was signed by the Rox on July 26 after playing for Newark of the independent Atlantic League.

Quebec closer Andrew Albers was recognized as the Can-Am League Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season. He appeared in three games on the week and recorded saves in each appearance, striking out six and allowing just two hits on no walks in five innings of work. On the season, he improved to 2-0 with a 0.74 ERA and 14 saves.

KING RICHARD'S FAIRE BACK AT CAMPANELLI STADIUM AUGUST 21

Brockton, Mass. - The Rox will be hosting King Richard's Faire Night at Campanelli Stadium on Saturday, August 21 as the team takes on the Quebec Capitales at 6:05 p.m.

The Faire's own "King Richard" will be on hand to throw out the first pitch of the game, while the Four Baritones will sing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" during the seventh-inning stretch. Other entertainers will be mingling with the crowd on the concourse and at the gates...but fans should mind their manners, as the Faire's own "Sheriff" will be handing out citations all evening long! Performers will be handing out coupons for $2 off admission, and tickets will be given out between innings throughout the game.

King Richard's Renaissance Faire, taking place from September 4 through October 24 in Carver, Mass., is now in its 29th year and is New England's largest Renaissance festival.

MEET BILL LEE AND ED NOTTLE AT JOE ANGELO'S, SEPTEMBER 5

With former Red Sox hurler Bill Lee joining the Rox as the club's starting pitcher on September 5, fans can meet Lee after the game at Mulligan's, at the back of Joe Angelo's restaurant, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Rox pitching coach Ed Nottle will also be on hand to perform with the Peter Jay Band during the evening. Admission to the event, which includes raffles and prizes, is $25, with proceeds going to the Children's Autism Program. Tickets can be purchased at Campanelli Stadium and at Joe Angelo's Café.
