Beloit Sky Carp News Release

BELOIT - The Sky Carp offense is waking up, and that could mean bad news for the rest of the Midwest League.

Beloit continued its offensive resurgence with a 6-5 victory over South Bend Saturday night at ABC Supply Stadium.

A lively crowd of 1,983 enjoyed celebrating Poopsie's first birthday, and capped the winning evening by enjoying a fantastic fireworks show.

Beloit closed the game with a nail-biting ninth inning from Caleb Wurster. The Cubs plated a run to cut the deficit to 6-5, then loaded the bases. Wurster went to a 3-2 count with Luis Verdugo before inducing a fly ball to left field to end the game.

After the Cubs opened the scoring with a run in the second inning, Beloit took the lead for good with four runs in the second inning. Jake Thompson struck the evening's big blow with a three-run blast to right field.

Kahlil Watson singled home a run later in the frame. The two squads would trade runs in the third, with Joe Mack driving home a run with a sacrifice fly.

The Cubs cut the lead to 5-3 with a run in the fourth, but the Sky Carp scored its final run in the seventh inning on an RBI single from Jacob Berry.

Luarbert Arias (2-1) picked up the win with two scoreless innings, while Wurster notched his third save of the season. The victory marked the team's first back-to-back win since May 12 and 13.

The Sky Carp and Cubs will meet again Sunday, where the weekend of fireworks continues! Sunday night's game will start at 6:35 p.m., with gates opening at 5:30.

The Beloit Sky Carp are the High-A Affiliate of the Miami Marlins and play their games at ABC Supply Stadium -- the heart of the Riverbend District.
