Sixth Inning Rally Keys B-Mets Win, 3-2

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Mets packed all their scoring into the sixth inning in a 3-2 win over the Akron Aeros tonight at NYSEG Stadium.

Trailing 2-0 and held to one hit through five innings against Akron starter Matt Packer, the Binghamton offense was jumpstarted by Jon Malo's leadoff triple in the sixth. In his Double-A debut, Matt den Dekker collect his first RBI by bringing Malo home with single to center.

After den Dekker stole second base, Packer's night came to a close when he walked Reese Havens.

Reliever Adam Miller came on and immediately let the one-run lead slip. The right-hander let loose a wild pitch that moved both runner sup and allowed a game-tying single to Brahiam Maldonado.

With the game tied at two and runners at the corners, Salomon Manriquez sent a bouncer to short that looked destined to be an inning ending double play. Instead, the ball bounced off of Juan Diaz's glove and bounded into centerfield. The error allowed Havens to come home with the go-ahead run.

The rally took B-Mets starter Robert Carson off the hook. Carson tossed four innings, allowed two runs, and walked six, a season-high. Brad Holt entered in relief for his first appearance out of the bullpen on the season.

After Binghamton took the lead, Erik Turgeon took over in the seventh. The right-hander put forth a strong bounce-back effort, allowing just a single and striking out two in a pair of scoreless innings.

Rhiner Cruz took the mound in the ninth in search of his first save as a B-Met. The righty allowed the tying run to reach second, but was bailed out when center fielder den Dekker made a catch at his shoe tops to end the ballgame. Cruz's save made a winner of Brad Holt for the third of the season.

The B-Mets (24-45) and Aeros wrap up their series tomorrow night at 6:35pm. RHP Collin McHugh (0-1, 3.72) will be opposed by RHP Austin Adams (5-6, 3.39). The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show begins at 6:20pm on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
