
Senators Drop Second Straight to Richmond

For the second straight game, the Senators fell to Richmond 4-2. Tanner Roark started for the Sens and hooked up with Justin Fitzgerald in an old-fashioned pitcher's duel. Roark retired the first 12 batters before allowing a double to Chris Dominguez leading off the fifth inning.
Roark pitched 6.1 innings and took the loss even though he allowed just five hits and three runs while striking out five. Jimmy Barthmaier and pitched 1.2 innings and allowed a run and struck out two. Patrick McCoy pitched a perfect ninth, striking out the side.
For the third straight game the Senators offense mustered two or fewer runs. They sent just three batters to the plate in seven of the nine innings. Alex Valdez doubled in two runs in the fifth inning giving the Senators a short-lived 2-0 lead. Archie Gilbert was the lone Senator with two hits.
Juan Perez homered in the sixth for the Flying Squirrels and then three consecutive doubles to start the seventh gave Richmond a 3-2 lead.
