Inland Empire 66ers News Release

Adelanto, CA - Zach Houchins extended his home run steak to four games but in the end it was not enough as the 66ers (0-4) were swept by the Mavericks (4-0) losing the series finale 3-2. It was a rare pitcher's duel at Heritage Field as bother starters allowed less than three runs in the contest. 66ers starting pitcher Jeremy Rhoades (0-1) went five innings striking out three while David Ledbetter (1-0) threw six innings of run ball for High Desert.

The Mavericks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after two innings when Travis Demeritte scored on a fielder's choice after his triple in the first frame followed by Juremi Profar driving in Seth Spivey with a single in the second inning. The 66ers would cut the margin to one after Caleb Adams drove in his second RBI of the season when he drove in Taylor Ward in the top of the fourth inning.

High Desert would get the run back in the bottom half of the frame when Scott Heineman scored on a wild pitch after drawing a walk, advancing to second on a single and reaching third via a David Lyons fly out to right field. That would cap the scoring for the Mavericks as Rhoades pitched a scoreless fifth followed by three shutout innings from the 66ers bullpen. The duo of Jose Molina and Jordan Piche combined to strikeout four batters while allowing no walks and one hit over those frames.

In the bottom of the ninth Houchins cut the Mavs lead in half when he homered to centerfield off Mavericks reliever Scott Williams, which was his seventh RBI of the 2016 campaign. Williams would regroup and earn his first save of the season by retiring Caleb Adams on a fly out. The win clinched the third four game sweep of Inland Empire by the Mavericks since the 1991 season.

The 66ers open up a three game series against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes tomorrow from LoanMart Field at 7:05pm. The 66ers will send Tyler Carpenter to mound to oppose Quakes right-hander Joshua Sborz. The game can be heard live on KPRO 1570 AM or at 66ers.com.
