Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Rancho Cucamonga rallied on three different occasions, but ultimately fell short on Sunday afternoon, dropping a 7-6 decision to the Lake Elsinore Storm at LoanMart Field.
Despite tying the game on three different occasions, the Quakes were unable to get to the back end of the Lake Elsinore bullpen, losing three of the four games in the series.
Franmil Reyes drove in four runs, including the game-winner, as his ground ball to third scored Franchy Cordero to snap a 6-6 tie, giving the Storm a one-run lead at 7-6 in the top of the seventh off Luis De Paula (0-1).
The Quakes got a lead-off single from Andrew Toles to open the eighth, his third hit of the game. Howie Kendrick, making his fourth and final rehab appearance for the Quakes, followed with a double-play ball though, squashing the Quakes rally. Kendrick finished the game with two hits and an RBI, giving him four runs knocked in, in four games.
In the ninth, Colby Blueberg earned his second save of the series with a 1-2-3 inning.
Quakes' starter Tommy Bergjans struggled a bit in his Rancho debut, as he allowed six runs on five hits over 4 1/3 innings.
Despite the loss, Rancho pounded out a season-high 13 hits, with Toles leading the way with three. Kyle Garlick finished just 1-for-5, but smacked a game-tying homer in the sixth, evening the contest at the time at 6-6.
Reliever Chris Huffman notched the win for the Storm, despite giving up a pair of runs, including Garlick's first long-ball of the year.
The Quakes (1-3) host Inland Empire (0-4) on Monday, as they open a three-game set against the Angels' affiliate, who just got swept in High Desert. Rancho will send Josh Sborz (0-0) to the hill in Monday's series-opener, while the Sixers will counter with Tyler Carpenter (0-0) at 7:05pm.
Monday is our first Social Media Monday of the year, as fans that track the Quakes on Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram can win great prizes on Monday night. Tickets are available at (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com.
