
Houchins Homers Yet Again But Sixers Fall 9-5

Adelanto, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers got a homer from third baseman Zach Houchins for the third consecutive night; unfortunately for the Sixers however the club dropped a third straight decision at High Desert. The 9-5 win for High Desert also marked the third night in a row that the Mavs (3-0) hung a four-spot in the bottom of the first inning.
The Sixers did manage their first lead of the season as they jumped on Mavs starter Collin Wiles for three runs in the top of the first. Tim Arakawa singled and came home Jose Briceno's double to open the scoring. Houchins then followed by hammering a two-run dinger out to left to make it 3-0. The Mavs wasted no time in getting the runs backed against IE starter Alex Klonowksi (0-1). A walk, single, double and then Jairo Beras' three run homer gave the Mavs a 4-3 lead before an out was recorded. Klonowski then settled down and at retired 10 men in a row.
The 66ers (0-3) took the lead in the fourth inning however when SS David Fletcher tallied a two-out two-run base hit to take a 5-4 lead. It was Fletcher's first hit of the night and chased Wiles from the game. Reliever David Perez (1-0) quieted the Sixers' bats over the next 3.1 innings allowing no runs and fanning five.
High Desert took the lead on Scott Heineman's 2-run double against reliever Harrison Cooney in the sixth and added two insurance runs in the seventh when David Lyon tagged a two-run double.
