Inland Empire 66ers News Release

San Bernardino, CA - The Inland Empire 66ers completed a four-game sweep of the Modesto Nuts on Monday with a 7-0 win. The victory marked the 66ers (15-30) third shutout of the season and now matches a season-high fourth consecutive win. The four-game sweep was Inland Empire's first of its kind since the last series of the 2014 season at Lancaster. It also marked only the second time in franchise history that Inland Empire swept Modesto in a four-game set, the other being 2007.

The Sixers got to Modesto (17-27) starter Sam Howard (2-3) in the fourth inning after he'd tossed three hitless innings to start the game. Inland Empire's Tim Arakawa rifled a base hit into right field and then moved to second on Caleb Adams' infield single that followed. Hutton Moyer's fly ball to the track in center allowed both runners to move up a base. The pair came home on Michael Strentz' two-out two-run single to give IE a 2-0 lead.

Inland Empire struck again in the fourth as Wade Wass blistered a screaming line drive over the wall in left off Howard to make it 3-0. It was Wass' first homer of the year. The Sixers then took advantage of some shaky defense by the Nuts as Zach Houchins doubled to center but took third when the ball was kicked by Wes Rogers for Modesto. He then came home when Ayendy Perez lifted fly ball to left that was dropped by Nuts' LF Max White. Perez was credited with a sac-fly, RBI and White with a two-base error. Later in the inning Perez would score on Adam's sac fly and Moyer made it a four-run inning with an RBI single for a 6-0 lead. Howard finished the night with six runs allowed, just three earned in 6.1 IP; the lefty fanned seven batters. Inland Empire tacked on a run in the eight on Zach Welz RBI single to make it 7-0.

Four pitchers combined on the shutout for Inland Empire and their cause was aided by four double-play balls. Jason Hoppe allowed four hits and two walks in three innings to start the game. He fanned one batter. Dixon Llorens (2-1) was credited with the win with two shutout frames allowing two hits. Josh Roenicke picked up the sixth and seventh allowing two hits and striking out one. Nate Fury tossed the final two frames allowing just a walk and striking out four.

The Sixers open a series vs the Storm on Tuesday. The contest can be heard at 66ers.com and 1570 AM KPRO. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm on a T-Shirt Tuesday.
