Bakersfield Blaze News Release
Lots of positives can be said about the Blaze after winning five of seven games on the road.
On Monday however, there was more bad than good.
Four wild pitches, a passed ball, and two errors ultimately led to a meltdown in Lake Elsinore as the Storm (20-25) thumped the Blaze (19-25), 14-5.
Franchy Cordero (4-4, 2B, 3RBI, 2R) did the most damage at the plate, but Luis Urias helped pave the way for the rest of his teammates. Urias led three innings off, including the first, by walking and eventually scoring. For the night, Urias was 1-2, but he managed to come across home plate on four occasions.
Tyler Marlette did everything in his power to keep the Blaze alive. Marlette continues to impress after recording another multi-home run performance on the road trip. Marlette crushed a Taylor Cox (W, 1-1) fastball to deep left field for a two-run homer that got the game tied at 4-4 in fifth. In the seventh, he hit a ball to the opposite field and over the 36-foot wall for a solo shot to get the Blaze closer at 9-5.
The Blaze had no answers in relief of Eddie Campbell (L, 4-3) who lasted just 4.1 innings. Campbell gave up six runs (4ER), off of four hits, and he walked four batters in the performance. Vinny Nittoli struggled with control as he went 1.2 innings, giving up three runs and four hits.
The loss brings Bakersfield back to .500 on the road with a 12-12 record as they return home to face the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in a three-games series that starts on Tuesday evening.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:30pm and Dan Besbris will have all the action on BakersfieldBlaze.com and TuneIn Radio.
