
Sixers Drop Third Straight One-Run Game, Fall to 0-6

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- Inland Empire's cold spell to open the 2016 season got even chillier on Tuesday as the 66ers fell to 0-6 on the year with a 6-5 loss at Rancho Cucamonga. It was the third consecutive loss decided by one-run for Inland Empire.
Trailing 3-1 entering the fourth inning, the 66ers got a booming homer to left field off the bat of catcher Jose Briceno; it was his first dinger of the year. The two-run homer tied the game against Quakes' starter and Riverside native Trevor Oaks. Neither Oaks nor IE starter Jake Jewell figured in the decision. The Quakes tied the game 4-4 in the bottom of the frame however when Tim Locastro's sac fly scored Nick Dean who had walked to open the inning. Dean, the nine-hole hitter, took three walks in the game as Inland Empire walked a season-high eight men.
Inland Empire took their second lead of the night with two runs in the top of the seventh. Trever Allen notched his second hit of the night to open the frame and eventually tied the game on Ayendy Perez's sac fly. Tim Arakawa then delivered a clutch two-out RBI single to give IE a 5-4 lead.
The Quakes, answered in the eighth versus IE reliever Ronnie Muck (0-1) after two quick outs. Muck allowed a single. a double and then back-to-back walks including an RBI free-pass to Dean. In the bottom of the eighth Tim Locastro reached on an RBI single and eventually scored the game winner on 19-year-old Cuban defector Yusniel Diaz's sac fly to make it 6-5. Reliever Kyle Hooper (1-0) earned the win and Scott Griggs notched his first save of the year for the Quakes who improved to 3-3. Brian Loconsole did toss three scoreless frames out of the pen for the Sixers. The series concludes Wednesday at 7:05 pm and can be heard live on 66ers.com.
