Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes rallied in the eighth to top the 66ers 6-5 on a Yusniel Diaz sacrifice fly as the young Cuban prospect picked up his first RBI in pro ball at LoanMart Field.
Diaz, hitless before tonight's game, not only picked up his first hit but was the tying run as well when 66ers pitcher Ronnie Muck walked Nick Dean with the bases loaded in the seventh.
Matt Beaty put the Quakes on the board early, with a solo shot to right field in the bottom of the first. Beaty is hitting .364, picking up 2 more hits and a run tonight at LoanMart Field.
Trevor Oaks gave up three earned runs, two of which came off of a Jose Briceno jack to left field in the fourth. Oaks only allowed 5 hits in six innings, picking up 3 strikeouts along the way.
66ers took the lead in the seventh after relief pitcher A.J. Vanegas gave up back to back singles to start the inning. Nine-hole hitter Ayendy Perez hit a sacrifice fly to plate Trevor Allen and a single by Tim Arakawa scored Zach Houchins.
Diaz came up big again in the eighth when he hit a sacrifice fly to right to score second baseman Tim Locastro, which eventually decided the game.
Andrew Toles improved to a .500 BA, going 5 for 7 against the Inland Empire 66ers.
Kyle Hooper (1-0) picked up the win, as well as 2 more strikeouts. Hooper has not allowed a run in five relief innings this season.
The Quakes (3-3) will see the 66ers (0-6) again Wednesday, and look to sweep their first series of the 2016 season as the 66ers search for their first win. Rancho sends Brock Stewart (1-0) to the mound to face Inland Empire's Justin Anderson (0-1).
