Inland Empire 66ers News Release

San Bernardino, CA- It was a back and forth affair Wednesday night at Arrowhead Credit Union Park as the Inland Empire 66ers (48-54, 16-16) prevailed over the High Desert Mavericks (44-58, 12-20) by the final score of 8-6.

The Sixers were shutout by Mavs starter Chris Sorce in his last appearance at ACUP, but had much better results against the right hander this time around.

The Mavericks took the early lead off of Sixers starter Manuel Flores with three runs in the first inning, and a run in the second with a solo homerun by Jack Marder. The Sixers however, matched them with a run in the first and three runs in the second inning capitalizing on two errors by the Mavericks.

Inland Empire took their first lead of the ballgame with an RBI double by David Harris bringing home Dillon Baird, and an RBI single by 66ers newcomer Brian Hernandez. It was the first RBI in an IE uniform for Hernandez.

The Mavericks scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning to tie the game at 6-6, where the scored would remain until Eric Oliver came to the plate with two runners on and two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Oliver came through with a two RBI single off the wall in left field, giving Inland Empire the 8-6 lead.

Mike Kenney escaped a bases loaded nobody out jam in the ninth inning by striking out Denny Almonte and Matt Cerione followed by a groundout from Trevor Coleman to end the game.

Flores got the win going six innings with four strikeouts and one walk. "He made adjustments throughout the game and found a way to win" said catcher Carlos Ramirez.

Inland Empire will be back in action in Thursday night at Arrowhead Credit Union Park against the High Desert Mavericks. RHP Matt Oye (4-3, 5.94 ERA) will be making his third start of the season for the 66ers opposite RHP Jandy Sena (1-1, 6.48 ERA) and the Mavericks.
