St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL, MN - The St. Paul Saints had their six game winning streak snapped in large part because of a six run sixth inning as they dropped game one of the doubleheader to the Sioux City Explorers 8-6 on Wednesday night at CHS Field.
With the game tied at two in the sixth and Saints starter Robert Coe looking strong, he walked the first two hitters in the inning. Matty Johnson followed with an RBI double to make it 3-2. Tim Colwell then knocked in a run with an RBI double to make it 4-2. Ralph Henriquez chased Coe with an RBI single to make it 5-2. The Saints turned to their bullpen and brought in Alec Crawford and got the first batter he faced, but a two-run double by Michael Lang and an RBI single by Noah Perio gave the Explorers an 8-2 lead.
The Saints mounted a comeback in the seventh when Tony Caldwell led off with a solo homer to right, his second of the season, to make it 8-3. Brady Burzynski then walked, but the next two batters were retired. Angelo Songco walked which gave Tony Thomas, who was 0-3 at that point, an opportunity to extend his 25 game hitting streak. He didn't disappoint crushing a three-run homer to right, his ninth of the season and career high 10th straight game he's recorded an RBI, to make it 8-6. Thomas extended his hitting streak to 26, two shy of Cory Harris' team record of 28 set back in 2003. The Explorers then brought in their closer Connor Overton who struck out Willie Argo to end the game.
