St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL, MN - The Saints added a little more speed to a team that is currently fourth in the league in stolen bases by signing Minnesota Twins farmhand, outfielder Chad Christensen.
The 25-year-old Christensen began this season at High-A Fort Myers and was hitting .190 with two home runs and seven RBI in 42 games. Last season playing a full season in Fort Myers he hit .257 with two home runs and 39 RBI. In 114 games he scored 47 runs, had 16 doubles, three triples and stole 22 bases with an identical on base and slugging percentage of .327.
Christensen was originally a 35th round draft pick by the Miami Marlins in 2012 out of the University of Nebraska, but he elected to return to Nebraska for his senior season. In 2013 he was selected by the Twins in the 25th round and spent the first year with the GCL Twins.
His best professional season came in 2014 at Single-A Cedar Rapids where he hit .272 with nine home runs and 73 RBI, all career highs. In 127 games he scored 84 runs, tied for fourth most in the Midwest League, roped 24 doubles, three triples while swiping 30 bases in 35 attempts. He had an on base percentage of .339 and a slugging percentage of .404.
While at Nebraska he was a First-Team All-Big Ten during his junior and senior seasons and a Big Ten All-Tournament team during his senior season in 2013.
The Saints also activated catcher Tony Caldwell from the disabled list and released relief pitcher Chris Peacock prior to Monday night's game.
In order to make room on the roster for Christensen the Saints placed infielder Sam Maus on the disabled list.
The Saints currently have the league maximum 23 players on the roster, 11 pitchers and 12 position players.
