
Six-Run Fifth Lifts Travs to Win in Opener

Springfield, MO - A six-run fifth inning propelled the Arkansas Travelers to a 7-4 victory over the Springfield Cardinals on Sunday night at Hammons Field.
In the fifth, Arkansas brought 11 men to plate and produced three hits with four walks and two sacrifices. The Travs and Cardinals entered the frame tied 1-1.
RHP Troy Scribner (W, 7-3) struck out seven (all over the first three innings) and tied a season-high with seven innings of work. Scribner allowed the four runs on six hits with two walks and the seven strikeouts.
RHP Josh Roenicke tossed a scoreless eighth and LHP Chris O'Grady (S, 1) earned his first save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth. Both relievers struck out a pair of Cardinals.
Travs 3B Andrew Daniel reached base four more times on Sunday, going 2-for-3 with a walk, hit-by-pitch, two runs scored and a double. Daniel is 24-for-54 over his last 16 games.
DH Eric Aguilera extended his season-best hitting streak to 10 straight games for Arkansas. Aguilera finished 2-for-5. Both Daniel and Aguilera are hitting .286 this season.
RF Jabari Herney and CF Forrestt Allday both manufactured two RBIs for the Travs.
RHP Johnny Walter (L, 0-2) worked 4.2 innings for Springfield and allowed six runs on seven hits with four walks and three strikeouts.
With the win, Arkansas improved to 40-51 on the season and 8-13 in the second half.
The Travs and Cardinals will play a doubleheader on Monday at Hammons Field. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 5:10 p.m.
