Six Former Bucks Selected in Third Day of MLB Draft

Waterloo, IA - Six former Waterloo Bucks were selected on the third day of the 2011 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. This brings the total of current and former Bucks selected in the MLB Draft up to 15.

Catcher Zach Jonesof Stanford University was drafted in the 34thround by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was the 767thoverall pick. He played for the Bucks in 2008 and played 38 games with 22 hits and 8 RBI. In his 2011 season at Stanford, he finished with a .261 average, 53 hits, 15 doubles, and 28 RBI.

During the 37th round, the St. Louis Cardinals drafted Brad Watson. Watson, a right-handed pitcher, is currently a senior at Wartburg College. In is 2011 season with Wartburg, Watson finished with a 2.07 ERA, a 10-4 record, and 88 strikeouts in 95.2 innings pitched. Watson played briefly for the Bucks in 2010 with three appearances and nine innings pitched.

Next, University of Texas-Arlington left-handed pitcher Mark Piccawas drafted in the 41stround by the New York Mets. He was the 1,242ndoverall pick. Picca (PICK-ah) is currently a junior at Texas- Arlington. In 2011 he racked up a 7.07 ERA with nine strikeouts. Picca played for the Bucks in 2009 where he had a 2.84 ERA in five appearances, and 12.2 innings pitched.

Former Bucks outfielder Willie Argowas drafted in the 43rdround by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was the 1,292ndoverall pick. Argo also played for Waterloo in both 2009 and 2010. In his 2010 season with the Bucks he had a .230 average, 28 hits, and 13 RBI. Argo is a junior at University of Illinois and finished the past season with a .270 average and 55 hits including six doubles.

Adrian Williamswas the 1,361stoverall pick in the 45thround, selected by the Milwaukee Brewers. The former Bucks shortstop played in 2009 finishing with a .111 average. He appeared in 34 games and had six hits. He attends UCLA where he is currently a junior. Last season with the Bruins, Williams had a .206 average, with seven hits and one RBI.

Finally, right-handed pitcher Zach Cooperwas selected in the 46thround by the Florida Marlins. Overall, he was the 1,393rd pick. He currently attends Central Michigan University where he is a junior. In his 2011 college season, the hurler finished with a 3.26 ERA, with a 6-3 record and 88 strikeouts in 91 innings pitched. Cooper also played two seasons with the Bucks (2009-'10), compiling a 4-8 record with a 5.58 ERA and 79 strikeouts.

The six former Bucks drafted on Wednesday join nine other former or current Bucks to be selected in the 2011 MLB Draft. A list of all former or current Bucks drafted in '11 is noted below:

The Bucks hit the road for a two game series versus the Madison Mallards at Warner Park. The Bucks will be back home at renovated Riverfront Stadium on Saturday, June 8 to take on the Green Bay Bullfrogs.
