Wausau Woodchucks News Release

BATTLE CREEK-June 9, 2011-After falling behind in the early going, the Wisconsin Woodchucks battled hard against the Battle Creek Bombers, but were unable to make a late-inning comeback, falling to the Bombers 6-4.

The Woodchucks got the scoring started in the top of the first after the defensive troubles bit the

Bombers tonight. With runners on the corners and two down, Bomber starter Chad Jasmon tried to pick

Mitch Manning off at first base, but the throw got away from first baseman Ryne Otis, allowing Garrett

Yrigoyen to score from third.

The Bombers came right back in the bottom of the first with a run of their own. Right fielder Dan

Dispensa got a single with one out and advanced to second on a passed ball by Woodchuck catcher

Carlos Escobar, Jr. He was driven in two batters later by a Ryan Otis two-out double, but Otis was

thrown out trying to advance to third by right fielder Derek Peterson.

The Woodchucks took the lead back in the second after a two-out single by Robbie De La Cruz brought

in Derek Peterson from third base.

They extended the lead to 3-1 in the third. Mitch Manning reached with a one-out walk, but was retired

on a fielder's choice by Shain Stoner. Stoner came around to score, though, on a two-out RBI-single by

Escobar, Jr.

Then it was the Bombers turn to strike, and they took full advantage. They scored four runs on only two

hits to take the lead from the 'Chucks, 5-3. The inning was highlighted by a two-run single by Dispensa.

The score stayed 5-3 until the seventh when the Woodchucks got the game to within a run on a two-out,

RBI single by Stoner.

The Bombers added a run of insurance in the eighth as Brendan Norton came around to score on a

single by Dan Dispensa. That run would prove to be superfluous, however, as the Woodchucks could not

score in the ninth, giving the Bombers the 6-4 victory.

Picking up the win for the Bombers was reliever Scott Simmons, and Kristian Calibuso got the save.

Receiving the loss for the 'Chucks was starter Derek Howell.

Jonathan Boersma pitched five, solid innings for the 'Chucks, allowing only one run and keeping the 'Chucks in the game.

The Woodchucks fell to 2-6 on the season, with the Bombers improving to 7-2.

These two teams will face off again tomorrow night with the first pitch at 6:05 EST.
