Six Different Chiefs Score in 8-6 Win over Seattle Friday Afternoon

Everett, Wash. - Six different Chiefs found the net as the Spokane Chiefs pulled off an 8-6 win over the Seattle Thunderbirds in their second exhibition game this week. Carter Esler and Cooper Michaluk split the game in net, with Esler stopping 21-of-23 shots faced over the first 31 minutes of play.

The Chiefs came out hot, scoring their first of three first period goals just 2:36 into the game as 19-year-old Ben Bonni found the twine with help from rookies Chase Harrington and Kaden Allan.

The Thunderbirds evened the score at 8:24 with a goal from Nishaan Parmar before Mathis Preston (from Coco Armstrong) and Berkly Catton (from Conner Roulette and Brayden Crampton) scored back-to-back goals at 13:19 and 18:57 to give Spokane a 3-1 lead going into the break.

The Chiefs brought that energy right over into the middle frame, as rookie 16-year-old Owen Martin notched his first goal of the game at 2:37 with help from Bonni.

From there, though, Seattle gained some momentum as they potted three goals in less than nine minutes to tie things up 4-4 going into the final period.

Martin was quick to answer, scoring his second goal of the game at 2:39 in the first to put Spokane back on top 5-4.

The Thunderbirds weren't going down without a fight, as Sam Popowich scored another game-tying goal at 6:46 before Catton potted his second of the afternoon at 8:20.

Seattle notched one more before Chiefs rookie Nathan Mayes and Chase Bertholet scored back-to-back goals with less than three minutes to play to cap the scoring for the day. Catton and Roulette both earned assists on both goals.

Bertholet, Catton and Roulette all finished +4, while Bonni, Harrington and Martin each finished +3 on the day. Martin won 10-of-15 faceoffs.

The Chiefs will next take the ice Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. as they face the Portland Winterhawks at Angel of the Winds Arena.
