Owen Chapman Signs WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement with Winterhawks

Portland, Ore. - The Portland Winterhawks Hockey Club is proud to announce the signing of forward Owen Chapman to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.

The Winterhawks selected Chapman in the third round (#59 overall) of the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft. He becomes the third player from the team's 2023 draft class to sign with Portland, joining first-round selection Griffin Darby and second-rounder Jordan Duguay.

Skating alongside Duguay with the Northern Alberta Xtreme U15 Prep team last season, Chapman recorded 11 goals, 10 assists and 21 points in 29 regular-season games to help his team earn the top seed heading into playoffs. Chapman and NAX went on to capture the 2023 CSSHL U15 Prep Championship last spring, with the 5-foot-9, 150-pound forward notching five points (1G, 4A) in five playoff contests.

"This is an exciting moment to have Owen Chapman secured as part of the Winterhawks' future," said Winterhawks' Assistant to the General Manager and Director of Scouting Mike Coflin. "He is a complete player and has already demonstrated during the Neely Cup and training camp practices the ability to take feedback and work on his game. His skating and high compete level really took a step with a great off-season in Saskatoon, and our coaching staff is looking forward to developing his offensive output. We are really pleased with Owen's progress and look forward to tracking his season with the Saskatoon Contacts U18 team this year."

Chapman is available to skate in Portland's preseason games this weekend, starting Saturday at 2:00 P.M. against the Spokane Chiefs at Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett. Tickets for this weekend's two preseason contests can be purchased through the Silvertips.
