
Sioux Falls Dominates from Start to Finish in Win over Westchester

Sioux Falls, SD - The Sioux Falls Skyforce put in a dominant performance in tonight's 112-96 victory over the Westchester Knicks. With the win, the Skyforce remain on top of the Central Division with seven games remaining.
Both teams started slow offensively, with the Skyforce (24-19) leading the Knicks (10-33) 8-6 with 6:09 remaining in the opening quarter. From there, Sioux Falls would pick it up and end the quarter on a 15-8 run which gave them a 23-14 lead after the first quarter. Westchester's 14 first quarter points is the fewest scored by a Skyforce opponent this season. Shawn Jones finished the quarter with six points and eight rebounds.
As the second quarter began, Sioux Falls would continue to grow their lead and a Scotty Hopson three-pointer gave the Skyforce a 45-27 lead halfway through the quarter. This 18 point lead would be the largest Sioux Falls lead of the half. The lead would remain in double-figures the rest of the quarter and the Skyforce took a 53-40 into the half. Sioux Falls, led by Jones' 10 first half rebounds, outrebounded the Knicks 33-18 in the half.
The Sioux Falls lead would reach 20 for the first time on the night when Jones converted a lay-up to give the Skyforce a 69-49 lead with 7:01 remaining in the quarter. The Skyforce would keep the lead around 20 for the remainder of the quarter and led 86-64 after three quarters. Fuquan Edwin caught fire in the third quarter, scoring 15 points, including 4-4 shooting from three-point range, after scoring only two points in the first half.
Over the first three quarters, Westchester shot 2-18 (11%) from three-point range. The fourth quarter would not be much different than the first three as the Skyforce cruised to a 112-96 win over the Knicks in front of a crowd of 3,160 at the Sanford Pentagon. The win keeps the Skyforce atop the Central Division with seven games remaining in their season.
Andre Dawkins led all scorers with 25 points in 32 minutes off the bench. Dawkins shot 7-12 (5-8 3FG) from the field and 6-7 from the line. Shawn Jones would finish the night with 20 points and 14 rebounds, giving him a team leading 14 double-doubles on the season. Markeith Cummings scored 12 points off the bench in his first appearance since being acquired by the Skyforce. Sioux Falls grabbed a season high 55 rebounds in the win.
Westchester was led by Doron Lamb's 24 points on 8-18 (3-10 3FG) shooting. Both Ben Strong and Thanasis Antetokounmpo would come close to recording double-doubles. Strong finished with 14 points and nine rebounds while Antetokounmpo would finish with 15 points and eight rebounds. Trey Gilder came off the bench to score 16 points.
Sioux Falls and Westchester will return to the court at the Sanford Pentagon tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m.
