Sioux City Musketeers News Release

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - A night after playing the RoughRiders on home ice, Sioux City traveled to "The Stable" to finish off their series against Cedar Rapids. Unfortunately, the change in scenery would not result in a better outcome for Sioux City, as they dropped this one by a final score of 4-0.

The Musketeers came out in the first period, similar to last night, struggling to create any offense against Cedar Rapids. The RoughRiders do an excellent job applying pressure on both sides of the puck, and the Musketeers had trouble adjusting. It would once again be the RoughRiders who would strike first in this one. Roman Achan got a breakaway opportunity halfway through the period and made a few nice moves before finding the back of the net to give Cedar Rapids a 1-0 lead. The physical play from last night's contest also seemed to carry over to tonight's matchup, and it would cost Sioux City. Martin Pospisil would get called for a roughing penalty with just over 5 minutes to play in the period. Kyle Looft converted on the powerplay for Cedar Rapids, extending their lead to 2-0. Sioux City had their chances in the period but could not find the back of the net.

The Musketeers came out in the 2nd period and finally managed to apply some pressure to the RoughRiders. They started to throw everything they could on the net, and managed to control the offensive zone at several points throughout the period. The last five minutes of the period favored Sioux City, but Jiri Patera was impressive in net and stopped everything sent his way.

It was downhill for the Musketeers in the 3rd period. The RoughRiders would get a 5-on-3 opportunity, and Nathan Smith connected to put the RoughRiders up by 3. Graham Slaggert added an empty net goal to seal a 4-0 win for Cedar Rapids.

With the loss, the Musketeers have officially been eliminated from playoff contention. Sioux City will still look to end the season on a high note with three games against Western Conference opponents. As always, you will be able to catch all three games live at Buffalo Wild Wings.
