Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
DUBUQUE, Iowa - John Beecher scored the game-winning goal 32 seconds into the extra session, as Team USA's U17s defeated the Dubuque Fighting Saints 5-4 on Saturday night at the Mystique Community Ice Center. The Saints, as a result of picking up a point in overtime, clinched a spot in the Clark Cup Playoffs for the eighth consecutive season.
Fensore busted into the offensive zone, blew past everyone and pitched a backhander past Cole Weaver for his ninth goal of the season, his second of the night, and his third goal against the Saints in the weekend series.
The Saints had to battle back, once again, on three different occasions to earn a tie game and get the game into overtime. Alex Steeves erased a 1-0 deficit, and Chayse Primeau and Adam Tisdale erased two separate deficits in the second period to draw even at 4-4.
Sean Farrell's goal at the 11:32 mark of the first period marked the eleventh straight time that the Fighting Saints had relinquished the first goal. Steeves' goal on a pass from Tyce Thompson and Tisdale put the Saints even.
Thompson then gave the Saints the lead at 2-1 with a goal on the return feed from Steeves on second effort in the second period. Thompson's goal, with his two assists, marked his second three-point effort in as many games, and his third in the last seven games.
A misplay in the defensive zone led to Owen Lindmark giving USA the lead, and he then scored his second of the weekend to begin the third period. It took an individual effort from Primeau four minutes later, and a response from Tisdale on Beecher's first goal of the night, to get the Saints even at four apiece heading into the extra session.
The game featured only two penalties. Both clubs killed off their respective penalties.
The Fighting Saints are back in action on Friday, April 13, and Saturday, April 14, for a crucial weekend set against the Green Bay Gamblers. Friday is PAW Patrol Night, a River Museum Family 4 Pack, and a Skate With the Saints Night, and Saturday is Fan Appreciation Night, presented by American Trust, with the drawing of the Winning Edge's $5,000 grand prize up for grabs.
